Founded in 1904, originally owned by Napier Miles, part of the Kingsweston Estate, the course was bequeathed to the National Trust in 1918. During the Second World War the course was reduced to 9 holes, the remainder being used as an Army Camp for United States troops. One hole is called “America” to this day. Knowle is a traditional members club which enjoys a reputation for it's fine greens and friendly welcoming atmosphere in the club house. A good test of golf, Knowle is a mature parkland course with two contrasting halves and the benefit of two starting points. The club has played host to many county and professional events over the last 100 years

The Club has retained its sylvan charm despite being within easy reach of J17 of the M5 and close to the villages of Westbury on-Trym, Stoke Bishop and Henbury.

Filton Golf Club is a private member's club that welcomes non-members to experience the challenge of the course and pleasant ambience of the clubhouse. Societies are welcome on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Play for non-members at weekends is only possible as a guest of a member. We ask for the sight of a current handicap certificate or evidence of golfing ability and expect all golfers to conform to the normal standards of dress and conduct. The course offers all players unlimited opportunities to complete a round with a real sense of achievement. Natural obstacles include a former quarry and spinneys of trees dotted round the course.

Apart from the par threes, there are only two holes that might reasonably be called straight. All the rest, to a greater or lesser degree, are dog-legs.

Although trouble is reasonably well distributed on both sides of most holes, the slicer generally comes off worse...
