Southampton golf club was established at the Municipal course in 1935.
Prior to this the club was nomadic playing competitions on other courses, much like a society today. Some events were even staged on the Common on Sundays. The Sports Centre, and the Golf Course, was the brain-child of Sir Sidney Kimber. He envisaged the council providing leisure activities for the people of Southampton after the Great War and work finally started in the thirties.

he course was designed by Willie Park Junior, who also designed Old Course at Sunningdale and Stoneham shares a lot of the characteristics that can be seen there. The course retains the parkland character of the historical landscape improved upon in 1775 by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown. It was opened in 1908 with a match between J H Taylor and James Braid.

The Ampfield Par Three Golf Club came into being in the early 1960’s, the result of the inspiration of Alan Baker and Sir Henry Cotton, one of the legendary golf players of his era. Romsey Golf Club is situated on the road from Romsey to Southampton at Nursling, just a short distance from junction 3 of the M27. The course measures 5,856 yards from the white tees with a standard scratch of 69, is extremely well wooded, with narrow fairways and relatively small greens. To refer to it as a parkland layout would be something of an understatement.

Hockley is a James Braid designed course set on 250 acres of historical chalk downland overlooking Winchester the ancient capital of Wessex.
