Denham Golf Club is a traditional private members' club which has been in existence since 1910. The course was designed and constructed in 1911 by Harry Colt, one of the most prolific of golf course designers and to this day its many special qualities reflect much of this tradition. Being situated on a gravel subsoil the course possesses good draining characteristics.

The Panshanger Golf Complex in Old Herns Lane, Welwyn Garden City provides first-class golfing facilities which are rated amongst the best in the country of those which are open to the general public. The world famous Ryder Cup Golf Trophy, that is now contested every two years between the USA and Europe, was donated by Samuel Ryder a wealthy seed merchant and early supporter of professional golf. Sam's business was based in St. Albans and his home club was Verulam where he was also Captain for several years.
