480 acre Wilderness Park is acquired for $1,244.81 per acre ($600,000). Initial plans call for a possible 9-hole public golf course. The idea of a 9-hole golf course is not pursued for the Wilderness Park. Weather the same and looks as if it would never change again. I walked to Cowden this morning and in the afternoon, Charlie and I walked to Holtye Common with Verney Darbishire and Mr. Morley, where they, Charlie and the others looked out a place for a golf links, and amused themselves knocking a golf ball about.

Founded in 1914 and with over 800 members, Nevill Golf Club is well placed on the Southern edge of Tunbridge Wells and has a magnificent view south from the verandah of the clubhouse over the well wooded slopes of Bayham and Frant. The course is exceptionally enjoyable and challenging at the same time and, from its tips, can stretch to nearly 6,500-yards.

Paxhill Park Golf Club is hidden away in 'Bluebell Railway' country and surrounded by sites of outstanding natural beauty, bordered on its southerly side by the Sussex Ouse. Hard-to-locate but close to Haywards Heath, it is an exquisitely photogenic downside course, originally designed by Patrick Tallack in 1989.

Piltdown Golf Club in East Sussex is close to Uckfield, Haywards Heath and Lewes and was founded in 1904. The course was constructed on Piltdown Common near to the Piltdown Pond. It has no sand bunkers and is not particularly long, measuring just over 6000 yards from the medal tees. The terrain is fairly level but the narrow fairways, small greens and an abundance of heather and gorse make for challenging golf.
