Founded in 1908, Newcastle-under-Lyme Golf Club has always been based on its present site but, from the original 9 holes, has been extended to the present 18 holes which have been in use since the 1960's. Much of the course is played through mature woodlands and presents a stern test for all degrees of proficiency, in particular the 15th, the signature hole.

Built in 1962, Westwood Golf Club is a long-time favorite of visiting and local golfers because of its excellent year-round condition and friendly personnel and was chosen by the readers of Golf Digest as one of their favorite places to play in 1996-1997. Westwood is well maintained and is a very scenic course. The front nine is flat, and the back nine is hilly. The fairways are narrow, and the greens are large. Nine hole rates only apply after 4:00 PM.
