South Shields Golf Club is one of the longest established Clubs in County Durham, North East England.

It is situated on the Cleadon Hills next to the Cleadon water tower, a local landmark which can be seen for miles around.

The course is a coastal heathland, open to sea breezes and has wonderful views all round, particularly over the Tyne estuary and north to the Cheviot hills and south to Wearside and the North Yorkshire coast.

the course boats a length of just over 6000 yards with scratch set at 70. Current membership statistics show that Seaham has over 500 gentlemen, and over 60 lady members.

The Club was founded in 1912 by a few Gentlemen of the village. It was started with 9 holes on the old vale course, but after a short while it moved to South Boldon. It remained a 9-hole course until 1926, when it was expanded to 18 holes with over 100 acres, laid out to the design of Mr Harry Vardon.

Whitburn Golf Club is located in the North-East of England between Whitburn Village and South Shields. The course has magnificent panoramic views of the North East coastline and the mouth of the river Tyne. Tynemouth Priory and St Mary's island in Northumberland are in view and on a good day, the Cheviot Hills to the north and the Cleveland Hills to the south can also be seen.

The committee is concerned at the lack of participation, in our Open day competitions, from our members. One Open so far has had to be cancelled due to lack of entrants, the other two Opens have been nowhere near full, unlike the past. If anyone could tell us why then we would be only too happy to hear from them to try and recoup the falling numbers.
