The circuit as of 2006 is the original circuit as designed by James Braid.

The names of the holes are those as previously recorded for heritage records.

The names have been re-introduced as part of the NWGC Centenary celebrations with the concept a maintaining the heritage of the club.

The 18 hole course has an abundance of sand traps. Each and every green is closely guarded by bunkers requiring a precise second shot. The layout is little changed from Dr Mackenzie's original design but a careful programme of tree planting over the last fifty years means that every fairway is tree lined calling for greater accuracy from the tee than most courses.

Gay Hill is an old established Club which was first formed in 1913, moving to the present site in 1921. The Course is laid out in a valley with gently sloping sides, through which runs a stream and its tributary. Subtle use is made of the sloping terrain and streams on several holes. It is not a particularly long Course, measuring just 6406 yards from the white tees and comprising of 10 par 4's, 4 par 3's and 4 par 5's, producing a par for the Course of 72, the SSS being also 72.
