The land over which the lovely Ham Manor golf course has been laid out for more than 67 years has a long and distinguished history.
Today the golf course is separated from the sea by a main road, a small town and some two miles.
It is difficult to picture the area criss-crossed with creeks and inlets, with access by boat to a quay at Poling which lies on the landward side of the course.

Goodwood Golf Course
On the evening of July 15th, 1892 six Sussex gentlemen came together to propose that a golf club should be formed for Chichester and the surrounding area. Despite the meeting’s low turnout, by the end of the evening, the new club had acquired 22 members - including three vicars and two unattached ladies! The nine hole course was formed at Peckham’s Copse, North Mundham and the entrance fee and annual subscription came to one guinea apiece.

Established in 1892 with two 9 hole courses. In 1922 the Club settled at its present 18 hole course at Innerwyke; a place once described as "charming, peaceful and rustic spot". James Braid planned the course and F G Hawtree constructed it. Within easy reach of the sea and with views of the South Downs, the course presents a challenge for the ablest of golfers; its fairways being divided by a mix of hedges, trees, streamlets and the whole being bounded by a waterway, the Aldingbourne Rife.
